Scottish- based fibre artist , Wendy Harrington, has balanced a career in the public sector with a passion for creating art work for over 40 years. She undertook an apprenticeship at Glasgow Glass studios in the early 1990s, with her fused glass work sold in galleries in Glasgow.
Wendy’s creative interests have found a home in fibre and textiles. Her mother worked was a machinist in the Yorkshire mills in the 1960s and 70s and Wendy was encouraged, even as a child, to ‘feel’ the cloth between her fingers, to enjoy its texture and quality .
Wendy believes this early background has made her comfortable working around different fibres. She works to reduce waste and, reuse resources to create something beautiful - something that causes us to recall wonderful moments spent in nature.
Her aim is to bring these happy memories into the home and workplace, through her art. As Wendy says, her ‘wool painting makes a lot less mess in the lounge than the actual sheep would !’.
